Yú Zhìníng 于志寧
Zì Zhòngmì 仲謐. Native of Yōngzhōu Gāolíng 雍州高陵 (modern Shǎnxī). Lifedates 588–665.
Tang minister and senior historiographer. Held Zhōngshū lìng 中書令 from 643, Tàizǐ tàifǔ 太子太傅, and Sīkōng 司空; involved in the demotion of Lǐ Chéngqián 李承乾 as Crown Prince (he had been Chéngqián’s mentor and his repeated remonstrations with Chéngqián’s misbehaviour led to an assassination attempt by Chéngqián). On Wǔ Zétiān’s faction’s victory in 659, demoted to provincial post, dying in officio.
Scholarly contributions: chief compiler (alongside Lǐ Chúnfēng) of the Wǔdài shǐ zhì 五代史志 attached to the Suí shū (KR2a0023); contributor to the Suí shū jìzhuàn; chief editor of the Tang Liù diǎn 唐六典 in the early Zhēnguān period; co-compiler with 長孫無忌 of the Yǒnghuī lǜ shū 永徽律疏 (the Tang lǜ shūyì, 653).
