Lady Xú 徐氏 (1362–1407), posthumously Rénxiào Wénhuánghòu 仁孝文皇后, was the principal consort of the Míng Yǒnglè emperor (Chéngzǔ 成祖, Zhū Dì 朱棣). Daughter of the Míng founding general Xú Dá 徐達 (1332–1385). Married to Zhū Dì in Hóngwǔ 9 (1376) when he was Yānwáng 燕王; granted huánghòu status on his usurpation in Yǒnglè 1 (1403). Her major surviving work is the Nèi xùn 內訓 (KR3a0076), a 20-篇 imperial-women’s pedagogical treatise composed for the imperial princes’ households and (after Yǒnglè 5 / 1407) distributed to the wider Míng official class as a xíngshēn manual. She also composed the Quàn shàn shū 勸善書 — a parallel work paired with the Nèi xùn in the Yǒnglè 5 imperial distribution. Biography: Míng shǐ — Hòufēi zhuàn (j. 113). The Nèi xùn self-preface is dated Yǒnglè 3 / 1st month / 15th (1405). She died 7th month / yǐmǎo of Yǒnglè 5 (1407) and was given the posthumous title 9th month / jiǎwǔ (1407).
