Hé Bǐngyuán 何炳元 (1861–1929), better known by his Hé Liánchén 何廉臣, was the leading Shàoxīng 紹興 physician of the late Qīng and early Republic and a major reformer of Chinese-medicine pedagogy. Native of Shàoxīng (Yuè 越), where he practiced and taught. He edited and printed numerous earlier wēnbìng and shānghán works under the imprint of the Shàoxīng Yīxué Bào 紹興醫學報 and the Shàoxīng Yīyào Xué Bào 紹興醫藥學報, including the Gǎn zhèng bǎo fá 感症寶筏 (KR3ef055, 1911, his re-edition and retitling of Wú Kūn’ān’s Shānghán zhǐzhǎng) and many other clinical compilations. His own works include Chóng dìng Guǎng wēn rè lùn 重訂廣溫熱論 (a major epidemic-medicine reference) and Quán guó míngyī yàn àn lèi biān 全國名醫驗案類編 (a nationwide case-records compilation that remains an indispensable reference). He died in 1929. He is one of the principal figures of the late-Qīng Shàoxīng medical school.
