Hé Liángjùn 何良俊 (1506–1573), Yuánlǎng 元朗, hào Bǎizhāi 柏齋 (also Qīngsēn jūshì 清森居士), a mid-Míng Sōngjiāngfǔ Huátíng 華亭 (modern Shànghǎi) literatus, bibliophile, and connoisseur. Brother of the dramatist Hé Liángfù 何良傅. As a youth he reportedly read widely in his family’s library, the Sìyǒuzhāi 四友齋 (“Studio of Four Friends” — i.e., Hé himself and Zhuāngzǐ, Wéimójié, and Bái Jūyì, the three companions of his solitude), which became the hào of his collected bǐjì. He never passed the jìnshì examination; on the strength of his gòngshēng standing he was appointed Hànlínyuàn kǒngmù 翰林院孔目 (a junior copyist office in the Hanlin Academy) in Jiājìng 32 (1553). Disillusioned by his stagnant career and by the political climate of the late Jiājìng court, he retired to Sōngjiāng in Jiājìng 35 (1556) and devoted the rest of his life to scholarship, collecting, and connoisseurship of painting, calligraphy, and kūnqǔ music — he was one of the earliest patrons of the emerging Kūnqǔ style in the region.

The catalog meta data/catalogs/meta/KR3l.yaml gives his birth year as 1526; this appears to be a typographical slip. CBDB (id 128402, drawing on the Míngrén zhuànjì zīliào suǒyǐn p. 270) and standard reference works (Wikipedia, Zhōngguó wénxué jiā dàcídiǎn) give 1506, followed here.

He was closely associated with Wén Zhēngmíng 文徵明 (who supplied the 1551 preface to the Yǔlín) and with the broader Wújùn circle of Wén, Zhù Yǔnmíng 祝允明, Lù Shēn 陸深, and Lù Cài 陸采.

Major surviving works in the Kanripo corpus:

  • KR3l0089 Yǔlín 語林 — a 30-juàn Shìshuō-style topical anecdote-compendium covering Hàn through Yuán, the principal Vorlage for Wáng Shìzhēn’s Shìshuō xīnyǔ bǔ.
  • KR3l0090 Sìyǒuzhāi cóngshuō 四友齋叢說 — his bǐjì miscellany, an important source for mid-Míng cultural, art-historical, and theatrical history.

He also left the Hé Hànlín jí 何翰林集 (poetry and prose collection, 28 juàn) and a substantial body of Kūnqǔ connoisseurial criticism preserved within the Sìyǒuzhāi cóngshuō.
