Yú Shàoyú 余邵魚 was a Míng popular writer, reputedly a native of Jiànchāng 建昌 (present-day Náncháng 南昌 area, Jiāngxī). His dates are unknown; he is not found in the CBDB. He is known primarily as the author of KR4k0085 Zhōucháo Mìshǐ 周朝秘史 (Secret History of the Zhou Dynasty), a 114-chapter popular historical novel covering the Zhou dynasty from its foundation through the Warring States period. Modern scholarship has noted that the Zhōucháo Mìshǐ was a source drawn upon by the compilers of the Fēngshén Yǎnyì 封神演義, particularly in its treatment of the fall of the Shāng and the rise of the Zhōu under Jiāng Zǐyá 姜子牙. Yú’s work is thus an important link in the chain of popular Zhou-conquest fiction that culminated in the Fēngshén Yǎnyì.
