Chuánrú 傳如 (1562 – 1624), Jièshān 戒山 (also written 介山), original Buddhist name Xīngrú 興如. Native of Hǎiyán 海鹽 (in modern Zhèjiāng, then administered as part of Wǔyuán 武原 / north-west of Sūzhōu); lay surname 顧. Late-Ming Tiāntái 天台 monk.

Took the tonsure in youth at the Zhāoqìngsì 昭慶寺 in Hangzhou under Jìnghú 鏡湖. He was particularly esteemed by Bǎisōng Zhēnjué 真寂百松 (一松, 1537–1589), who urged him to “shoulder the great Dharma” (荷擔大法). Studied Tiāntái doctrine and meditation under Miàofēng 妙峰; became known for unimpeded preaching and disputation (講辨無礙). Together with Zǐbǎi Zhēnkě 紫柏真可 he was caught up in the great late-Wàn-lì fǎnàn 法難 (“Dharma persecution”) of the Buddhist sangha under court politics, but was eventually released without conviction. In later life he resided at the Dàshànsì 大善寺 in Tángqī 塘棲 (in Hangzhou prefecture).

He is reported to have died in Tiānqǐ 4 = 1624 at the age of 63 (per the Shìshì yínián lù 釋氏疑年錄 fasc. 11), implying a birth year of 1562 (calculated sui).

His extant works include the Lèngyánjīng jiéliú 楞嚴經截流 in 2 fascicles (KR6j0704, X14 no. 296), the Fǎhuá shūhǎi 法華抒海, and the Lèngyánjīng xiē 楞嚴歇 (the latter two preserved only in fragments). In Wànlì 25 = 1597 (春), at the Jiǔshā chànshì 九沙懺室 in Xīxī 西溪, he composed the principal preface to Yōuxī Chuándēng’s Lèngyánjīng xuányì (KR6j0690).
