Liú Cáishào 劉才邵 (also written 劉才卲; 1086–1158), Měizhōng 美中, hào Shānxī jūshì 檆溪居士, native of Lúlíng 廬陵 (modern Jí’ān 吉安, Jiāngxī). His native-place link with Wáng Tíngguī 王庭珪 王庭珪 of Lúxī 瀘溪 was important: the two were the principal Lúlíng survivors of the Cài Jīng / Wáng Ānshí literary proscription of the late Northern Sòng. Yáng Wànlǐ’s preface to the present collection (dated 1203) preserves the famous account of Liú and Wáng smuggling the proscribed works of Ōuyáng Xiū, Sū Shì, and Huáng Tíngjiān into the Imperial Academy by night.

Shàngshè jiǎkē graduate of Dàguān 3 (1109; jiǎkē 1109 confirmed by Yáng Wànlǐ preface; Dàguān 2 / 1108 in the Sìkù tíyào). In Xuānhé 2 (1120) he placed second in the Hóngcí kē 宏詞科. Held Xiàoshūláng 校書郎 and on his parents’ account returned home for ten years. Under Shàoxīng he was recalled as Bìshū chéng 秘書丞, twice headed the imperial drafting (zhìgào), reaching Gōngbù shìláng 工部侍郎 with concurrent power-of-the-Lìbù shàngshū 吏部尚書, and was honoured Xiǎnmógé zhíxuéshì 顯謨閣直學士. Liú left the Shānxī jūshì jí 檆溪居士集 KR4d0157 (originally 22 juǎn per Zhōu Bìdà preface, transmitted in the Sìkù recension as 12 juǎn).
