Liú Huàn 劉渙 (1000–1080)

Níngzhī 凝之, hào Xījiàn xiānshēng 西澗先生 (“Master of West Stream”). Native of Yúnzhōu 筠州 (modern Gāo’ān, Jiāngxī). Jìnshì of Tiānshèng 8 (1030); served as Magistrate of Yǐngshàng 潁上 (in modern Ānhuī). Retired as Tàizǐ zhōngyǔn 太子中允 and lived as a recluse on Mt. Lú (Lúshān), where he composed his Xījiàn shījí. He was famously visited by Sū Shì in his last decade and praised in Sū’s verse. Father of Liú Shù 劉恕 (1032–1078), Sīmǎ Guāng’s principal collaborator on the Zīzhì tōngjiàn; grandfather of Liú Xīzhòng 劉羲仲. The catalog meta gives Liú Huàn’s dates as 1000–1064; CBDB and Wikidata give 1000–1080 (Sū Shì’s huánglóng dàorén visit in 1080 is the latest event), which is followed here.
