Late-Yuán Qīngwēi 清微 / Shàngqīng 上清 Daoist, twenty-fourth-generation legitimate descendant (嫡孫) of the founding Shàngqīng ancestor-goddess Wèi Huácún 魏華存 (Zǐxū yuánjūn 紫虛元君) and heir of the Ānchéng Yùyuán 安成玉源 immortal-lineage, holding the title “Envoy of the Shàngqīng Three-Caverns Five-Thunder-Registers, Qīngwēi Míngyuán” (上清三洞五雷經籙清微明元使). He is the central figure of the transmission-narrative of Gāoshàng Yùhuáng běnxíng jīng suǐ 高上玉皇本行經髓 (DZ 12), which he received by immortal revelation at the Xiānjièpù 仙界鋪 post-station in Shíchéng xiàn 石城縣 of Huàzhōu 化州 (Guǎngdōng) on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month of the Yuán Zhìzhèng 至正 4th year (1344), during a journey from Guǎngxī Liǔzhōu 柳州 southward through the Hǎiběi route. The immortal, who identified himself as “a Daoist of Píling 毗陵” and ascended on a cloud after the transmission, left behind a sitting-stone and footprints that local tradition had long associated with the post-station’s name. The transmission-narrative (Chuánjīng yuánliú 傳經源流) is the sole source for Liú’s biography; he is not in CBDB, and no other Kanripo-corpus work is attributed to him. Schipper, in The Taoist Canon (2004) 2:1098, notes him as a Qīngwēi master of the twenty-fourth generation after Wèi Huácún and dates his floruit to 1344.
