Liú Dàokāi 劉道開

Early-Qīng lay Buddhist exegete from Bājùn 巴郡 (modern Chóngqìng / Sìchuān). Sobriquet Fēi-yǎn 非眼 (“Not-Eye”); self-styled Bājùn jūshì 巴郡居士. Floruit Kāngxī period (active 1640–1667). Compiler of the ten-fascicle Lèngyán-jīng guàn-shè 楞嚴經貫攝 KR6j0711 (X15 no. 303), an extensive Śūraṃgama-sūtra commentary that he describes as having required twenty-seven years to complete: he first read the Sūtra in Chóngzhēn 13 / Chóngzhēn-mò Gēng-chén 庚辰 (1640) while sojourning in Bĕijīng; consulted with the Chán master Lí-zhǐ 離指 at Jiālíng 嘉陵 in Shùnzhì 6 jǐ-chǒu 巳丑 (1649); and completed the work in Kāngxī 6 dīng-wèi 丁未 (1667) at the winter solstice. Not located in CBDB; appears to have been a non-degree-holding jūshì whose entire scholarly profile centers on the Guàn-shè.
