Author of the Jīngshǐ zhèngyīn qièyùn zhǐnán 經史正音切韻指南 KR1j0067 (1 juàn, completed Hòuzhìyuán 2 / bǐngzǐ / 10th month / 1336 — per the author’s own preface). The work is the most influential of all post-Sòng děngyùn (phonological-grade chart) books: it adopts Sīmǎ Guāng’s 司馬光 Qièyùn zhǐzhǎngtú KR1j0058 as its base, supplemented by the Sìshēng quánxíng děngzǐ KR1j0066 (anonymous Yuán), and adds the so-called “WángYúshī ménfǎ” 玉鑰匙門法 — a set of formal rules of fǎnqiè spelling — which became the standard pedagogical framework for děngyùn studies down to the Qīng. The Sìkù tíyào notes that Liú Jiàn’s later supplementary additions (the Yùyàoshí and the Yúyú zhízhǐ ménfǎ) are by the early-Míng monk Shì Zhēnkōng 釋真空 and later editors, not by Liú himself.
