吉原杏隱

Yoshihara Kyōin 吉原杏隱 (fl. late 18th c.), Nagasaki bushi-turned-bone-setter; former martial artist (yuánwǔfū 元武夫) who developed the jujutsu / kuatsu 死活拳法 (“dead-or-alive boxing-method”) into a clinical system of orthopaedic manipulation. Teacher of 二宮獻 Ninomiya Ken, who travelled west to Nagasaki to study under him and subsequently synthesised the Yoshihara manual-manipulation tradition with the imperial Qīng Zhènggǔ xīnfǎ yàozhǐ (KR3el015) and Dutch rangaku anatomy in KR3el019 Seikotsuhan / Zhōngguó jiēgǔ túshuō (1808). No further biographical record located; Yoshihara himself wrote nothing that survives.
