Late-Wàn-lì master physician of Xīn’ān 新安 (Hùizhōu, modern Anhui Shèxiàn 歙縣); Shānfǔ 山甫, hào Hègāo 鶴皋, also Cānhuángzǐ 參黃子. Conventional lifedates 1551–1620+. After ten years of unsuccessful civil examinations, turned to medicine on the liáng xiàng / liáng yī model; trained itinerantly through Suzhou, Zhejiang, Hubei-Hunan, and Hebei over thirty years before returning home to write. Author of the late-Ming Xīn’ān-school synthesis:

  • Yī fāng kǎo 醫方考 (1584) — a critical formulary, widely reprinted.
  • Mài yǔ 脈語 (KR3eb040, 1584) — pulse manual in dialogue form.
  • Huáng dì nèi jīng Sùwèn Wú zhù 黃帝內經素問吳注 (1594) — Sùwèn commentary.
  • Zhēn fāng liù jí 針方六集 (1618) — acupuncture compendium.
