Wú Qǐ 吳起 (d. 378 BCE), traditional military strategist and statesman of the Warring States period, native of Wèi 衛. Served Lǔ 魯, Wèi 魏, and Chǔ 楚 successively as a senior military and administrative officer; killed in Chǔ in the political turmoil following King Dào 悼’s death (378 BCE). Author of the Wúzǐ bīngfǎ 吳子兵法 (KR3b0004) — the canonical military classic in 6 篇 (the received version preserved at one juan), which the Wǔ jīng qī shū canonisation of 1080 placed alongside Sūnzǐ and the others as one of the seven foundational military classics.
