Zhōu Liànggōng 周亮工

Yuánliàng 元亮, hào Lìyuán 櫟園. Late-Míng / early-Qīng scholar-official, painter, and bibliographer, native of Xiángfú 祥符 in Kāifēng 開封 (Hénán). Jìnshì of the late Míng (1640); served the Qīng as Grand Coordinator (xúnfǔ) of Fújiàn and Vice Minister of Justice. Best known to bibliographers for his Shū yǐng 書影 (preface 1667, “Reflections among books”) — a collection of literary, bibliographic, and biographical anecdotes from his own and his contemporaries’ reading and conversation, an important miscellany source for late-Míng / early-Qīng intellectual history. His Dú huà lù 讀畫錄 is the principal early source for late-Míng / early-Qīng painters.
