Liú Sòng / Southern Qí lay Buddhist scholar and exegete; zì Yànlún 彥倫. Native of Rǔnán 汝南. One of the most important early proponents of the Sānlùn 三論 (Mādhyamika) Buddhist philosophy in southern China and a celebrated literary stylist. Held minor offices under both dynasties. Close associate of 明僧紹 Míng Sēngshào and of the early Shè Shān 攝山 Buddhist community at Qī xiá Sì 棲霞寺 outside Jiànkāng. His best-known surviving work is the Sān zōng èr dì lùn 三宗二諦論 (“On the Two Truths of the Three Schools”), a foundational early-Chinese Mādhyamika treatise. Source: Nán Qí shū 南齊書 41; Nán shǐ 南史 34.
