Yú Jiāyán 喻嘉言 (real name 喻昌 Yú Chāng, zì Jiāyán 嘉言, hào Xīchāng lǎorén 西昌老人, 1585–1664), eminent early-Qīng physician of Xīnjiàn 新建 (Jiāngxī), one of the “Three Great Physicians of the Early Qīng” (清初三大名醫) alongside 張璐 Zhāng Lù and 吳謙 Wú Qiān (or, in other lists, Zhāng Lù and Wú Yǒuxìng 吳有性). Originally a zhūshēng who failed at the imperial examinations, took Buddhist tonsure, then re-entered secular life as a physician practising in Cháng-Shú 常熟 and Nán-Chāng 南昌. Author of Shàng lùn piān 尚論篇 (a major Shānghán commentary that radically reorganises the canon), Yī mén fǎ lǜ 醫門法律, and Yù yì cǎo 寓意草 (the foundational case-record book of Qīng yīàn literature). Originator of the nìliú wǎnzhōu 逆流挽舟 method for treating dysentery, a doctrinal cornerstone of the later Qīng dysentery tradition (cf. KR3eh053).
