Yán Jié 嚴潔 (b. 1678, fl. 1761), zì Xītíng 西亭. Mid-Qīng physician of Qiántáng 錢唐 (Hángzhōu). With his fellow Hángzhōu physicians Shī Wén 施雯 (zì Dànníng 澹寧) and Hóng Wěiquán 洪煒全 he co-compiled the Dé pèi běncǎo 得配本草 (KR3ec058), printed in Qiánlóng 26 (乾隆辛巳, 1761). The work’s distinctive contribution is the systematic exposition of drug pèiwǔ 配伍 (combinatorial pairing): how each substance behaves when paired with other drugs in compound formulae — a doctrine implicit in Zhāng Zhòngjǐng’s jīngfāng but not previously made explicit in a pharmacopoeia. CBDB 76275 has a birth year of 1678 with no death year; this matches the conventional date for the Dé pèi author and the dynasty context. He is otherwise not richly documented.
