Yán Yònghé 嚴用和 ( Zǐlǐ 子禮, fl. Bǎoyòu / Xiánchún reigns, 1253–1267, 南宋), Southern-Sòng physician active for over 50 years (per his own preface), apparently a disciple of 陳言 Chén Yán via Liú of unknown identity (Wú Chéng’s preface refers to Yán as “following Liú” 嚴師於劉, possibly Liú Wánsù lineage but more likely a local Sòng Liú-master). Author of the Jìshēng fāng 濟生方 (KR3e0043) — originally 10 juan, recovered by SKQS editors as 8 juan from the Yǒnglè dàdiǎn, with 80 discussions and 400 prescriptions in the original (recovered: 56 discussions and 240+ prescriptions). The work builds directly on Chén Yán’s Sānyīn jíyī bìngzhèng fānglùn (KR3e0041) — taking Chén’s theoretical framework and supplementing it with Yán’s own personal-experience prescriptions. Wú Chéng’s Yìjiǎn guīyī fāng xù and Gǔjīn tōngbiàn rénshòu fāng xù are the principal contemporary witnesses to Yán’s reputation. The famous Guīpí tāng 歸脾湯 — still cited in TCM under the name “Jìshēng Guīpí tāng” — derives from Yán’s work; the prescription’s preservation of his school’s name in the modern formulary is a measure of his enduring influence.
