A pseudonymous “Master An” (Ān fǎshī 安法師) figure invoked in the head-titles of a small group of Dūnhuáng apocrypha as the alleged “translator” — most prominently of the Dà bān nièpán Móyé fūrén pǐn jīng (KR6v0018) recension of the Fómǔ jīng 佛母經. The honorific Dàdé 大德 (“Great Virtuous One”) is generic; no historical identification with a specific Táng or earlier Dào’ān 道安 / Huì’ān 慧安 figure is supportable. The attribution is hagiographic convention rather than historical record, attaching the apocryphon to a vaguely-remembered eminent teacher in order to lend it canonical authority.
