Dàguān 大觀 (Wùchū Dàguān 物初大觀)

Southern-Sòng LínjìYángqí Chán master. Hào Wùchū 物初 (“Thing-Beginning”); also Yùwáng Guān 育王觀 (for his Āyùwángshān 阿育王山 abbacy). Native of Yīnxiàn 鄞縣. Lifedates 1201/7/18 – 1268/8/4 (Jiātài 1/6/10 – Xiánchún 4/6/17, age 68, per Āyùwángshān zhì 阿育王山志 juan 8 tomb-inscription).

Dharma-heir of Běijiàn Jūjiǎn 北磵居簡 (1164–1246), whose yǔlù KR6q0299 he compiled as his master’s editor. Subsequently had his own productive teaching-career; his own yǔlù is KR6q0300 (compiled by his disciple Dépǔ 德溥).

Known for Chán-literary excellence, including poetry and prose compositions influenced by his master’s (and grand-master’s) tradition of wénzì chán 文字禪.
