Yáo Zuì 姚最
Native of Wúxìng 吳興 (Zhèjiāng). Born 535 (Liáng); died 602 (Sui). Active under the Liáng, Chén, and early Sui.
A late-Liáng / Chén-and-Sui-period scholar with strong painting-and-medical interests. Author of the Xù huàpǐn 續畫品 (KR3h0003) — the principal Chén-period continuation of Xiè Hè’s KR3h0001 Gǔhuà pǐnlù. The Sìkù 提要 of KR3h0003 notes that internal evidence — the work refers to Liáng Yuándì 元帝 as “Xiāngdōng diànxià 湘東殿下” (the title before his accession in 552) — places the work’s composition in the late Liáng period, before Yáo Zuì’s own move to the Chén court. The catalog meta classification as “陳” reflects Yáo Zuì’s later residence rather than the work’s actual composition-period.
