51st-generation descendant of Confucius and hereditary holder of the Yǎnshènggōng 衍聖公 title under the Jīn 金 (and subsequently early Mongol) regimes. He held office under the Jīn as Zīzhèng dàfū 資政大夫, Director of the Academy of Worthies (Jíxián yuàn 集賢院), and concurrent Tàicháng chéng 太常丞 — the senior ritual office of the late-Jīn court. He represents the Northern Kǒng line that remained at Qūfù 曲阜 under Jīn rule (in contrast to the Southern Yǎnshènggōng line at Qúzhōu 衢州, descended from his uncle Kǒng Duānyǒu 孔端友). After the Mongol assault on Kāifēng in 1233, he was relocated to the Mongol court and under Ögödei played a key role in re-establishing the Yǎnshènggōng enfeoffment under early Yuán authority. He is principally known as the compiler of the Kǒngshì zǔtíng guǎngjì 孔氏祖庭廣記 (KR2g0006), completed in Zhèngdà 4 (1227) — a twelve-juàn gazetteer-cum-genealogy of the Kǒng family at Qūfù, supplementing two earlier private Kǒng compilations (now lost) and the southern Dōngjiā zájì 東家雜記 (KR2g0002) of his kinsman Kǒng Chuán.
