Early-mid Qīng official and literary disciple of Wáng Shìzhēn 王士禎; native of Shāndōng. Zhòngliáng 仲良; hào Méngquán 蒙泉. CBDB (personid 79809) gives lifedates 1703–1768. Jìnshì of Qiánlóng 2 (1737); held a series of provincial posts, ultimately rising to Surveillance Commissioner (按察使 Àncháshǐ) of Gānsù. Known principally for his role in transmitting and supplementing Wáng Shìzhēn’s unfinished Wǔdài shīhuà 五代詩話 (KR4i0064): Sòng Bì received Wáng’s draft from disciple-circle transmission, supplemented the lacunae, and printed the work. The Sìkù editors register that his supplementation was limited by his strict adherence to Wáng’s bibliographic horizon (“fēi suǒ zhù zhī shū bù dú” — he would not read books his master had not read). His own collected works include the Méngquán shī chāo 蒙泉詩鈔 and Méngquán wén chāo.
