Shūkai 宗快 (1276–1340), Tendai shōmyō master and scholar of the Ōhara Raigō-in liturgical-music lineage in the Kamakura / Nanboku-chō period. His principal works are the Gyo-san mokuroku KR6t0425 (a systematic catalogue of the Ōhara shōmyō repertoire) and the Nyohōkyō genshū sahō KR6t0441 (a ritual manual for the Nyohōkyō sūtra-copying observance, with attention to its musical accompaniment). Together these provide the principal documentary record of the medieval Japanese Buddhist musical tradition as it existed at the Ōhara performance center in the early 14th c.
