Kuānliàng 寬量

A late-Qīng monk active in the Sìmíng 四明 (= Níngbō) region of eastern Zhèjiāng during the Guāngxù 光緒 reign. Native of Yíndōng 鄞東 (eastern Yín 鄞 county = the Níngbō region). Yuánhǎi 源海; hào Dànyún 澹雲 (“Light Cloud”) and Xīduò 西舵 (“Western Rudder”). His self-designation is bùxiào yúxià fánfū sēng 不肖愚下凡夫僧 (“unworthy stupid-and-low ordinary-fellow monk”) — a characteristic late-Qīng self-effacing monastic register.

Author of the 《淨土救生船詩》 Jìngtǔ jiùshēng chuán shī KR6p0134 (X1216) — a sequence of forty-eight (matching Amitābha’s forty-eight vows) seven-character four-line juéjù poems on Pure Land themes, each accompanied by an extended self-commentary of several hundred to several thousand characters drawing out the sān guān yuán xiū 三觀圓修 doctrine. The work was published in 1896 with prefatory and postface contributions from a Jīngāng jīng commentator and from the late-Qīng / early-Republican Confucian-Buddhist zhèngxué figure Xià Zhènwǔ 夏震武 (1854–1930).
