Cén Wénběn 岑文本
Zì Jǐngrén 景仁. Native of Jiānglíng 江陵 (modern Húběi). Lifedates 595–645.
Early-Tang chief minister and historiographer. Held Zhōngshū lìng 中書令 from 643 — the de facto leading civil position of the empire under Tang Tàizōng. Died on the Liáodōng expedition of 645 against Goguryeo. One of the principal Tang court drafters of edicts and memorials; his prose style was widely imitated.
As historiographer, he was one of the five compilers of the Zhōu shū (KR2a0022) under Lìnghú Détén’s chief editorship, and a contributor to the Suí shū (KR2a0023) under Wèi Zhēng’s editorship. His biographies are in Jiù Tángshū 70 and Xīn Tángshū 102 (KR2a0026, KR2a0027).
