Chángshè 常攝
A late-Míng / early-Qīng Pure Land monk, lay name unrecorded; original lay sobriquet Wúxiǔ 無朽 (“Imperishable”), the seniormost of the eight Sūzhōu friends (Wúchéng bā yǒu 吳城八友) who in 1643–1647 received twenty-four sessions of planchette spirit-writing teaching from the bodhisattva 覺明菩薩 Juémíng miàoxíng púsà. At the bodhisattva’s direction he took full ordination and the bodhisattva precepts under Sānmèi héshàng 三昧和尚 (i.e. Sānmèi Jìguāng 三昧寂光), receiving the dharma-name Chángshè 常攝 (“Constantly-Embracing”). He is the compiler (jí 集) of the planchette transcript that became the 《西方確指》 Xīfāng quèzhǐ KR6p0110 (X1191) — one of the most consequential late-imperial Pure Land catechisms. Lifedates not preserved.
