Late-Míng / early-Qīng Cáodòng-school Chan master, sobriquet Luófēng 羅峰. Native province unknown. Lifedates unknown; the floruit given here (1640–1680) reflects his attested teaching career and the works composed by his contemporaries.
He was a dharma-heir of Xuěguān Zhìyín 雪關智誾禪師 and opened a teaching seat at Rìqīn shān 日親山 in Sháozhōu 韶州 (Sháoguān, in modern Guǎngdōng). His extant works are the present Bōrě xīnjīng kāidù 般若心經開度 (X550 = KR6c0169) and the Yuánjué jīng jùshì zhèngbái 圓覺經句釋正白 (X262), the latter a substantial commentary on the Sūtra of Perfect Awakening.
He was a close associate (zhìyǒu 至友) of 弘贊 Zàishēn Hóngzàn 在犙弘贊 (1611–1685), the prominent late-Míng / early-Qīng Vinaya-and-Chan revivalist; his disciples included Zōngfú 宗符 (Hóngzàn’s pupil-cousin in the broader Cáodòng network).
His writing represents the Sháozhōu Cáodòng-school monastic culture of the early-Qīng period — a regional southern monastic centre that maintained Cáodòng doctrinal traditions through the MíngQīng transition and produced a substantial commentarial output on key Buddhist sūtras.
