Zhāng Dīng 張丁 (mid-14th c.), conventionally known by his Mèngjiān 孟兼, native of Pǔjiāng 浦江 (Zhèjiāng) and a fellow-townsman of Sòng Lián 宋濂. Summoned in the early Hóngwǔ years on Sòng Lián’s recommendation as Guózǐjiàn xuélù 國子監學錄 and participated in the Yuán shǐ 元史 compilation; thereafter rose to Tàichángchéng 太常丞, then was sent out as Shānxī ànchá sī qiānshì 山西按察司僉事 and later Shāndōng ànchá sī fùshǐ 山東按察司副使. Falsely denounced by Wú Yìn 吳印 for over-strict enforcement of the law and executed in the marketplace, likely in the late 1370s. The famous judgement that Liú Jī 劉基 offered to Míng Tàizǔ — ranking the literary men of the time as Sòng Lián, himself, then Zhāng Mèngjiān — is the principal contemporary witness to his standing in the Hóngwǔ literary establishment. His record is appended to Zhào Xūn 趙壎’s biography in Míng shǐ Wényuàn zhuàn. His surviving literary collection is KR4e0028 Báishí shānfáng yìgǎo in two juǎn, an early-Qīng recovery from a long-dispersed six-juǎn original. CBDB ids 437598 / 573267 record the name but give no dates.
