Zhāng Shàngyuàn 張尚瑗 (1656–1731), zì Hóngqú 宏蘧 and also Sǔnshí 損時, native of Wújiāng 吳江 (Sūzhōu 蘇州 prefecture). Kāngxī wùchén (1688) jìnshì; admitted as shùjíshì 庶吉士 to the Hànlín Academy and after the sǎnguǎn posting was rotated out as magistrate of Xìngguó 興國 county. He studied Chūnqiū under Zhū Hèlíng 朱鶴齡 (zì Yúancǎo 愚菴; 1606–1683), one of the most authoritative seventeenth-century Zuǒshì exegetes, whose Dú zuǒ rì chāo 讀左日鈔 prompted Zhāng’s parallel manuscript Dú sān zhuàn suí bǐ 讀三傳隨筆, which Zhāng eventually re-cast as Sān zhuàn zhé zhū 三傳折諸 (KR1e0107) — completed in Yōngzhèng 1 (1723) per his own preface.
