Zhāng Xiè 張燮 (1574–1640), zì Shàohé 紹和, hào Hǎibīn yìshǐ 海濱逸史, also Xīyuán 西園; native of Lóngxī 龍溪 in Zhāngzhōu, Fújiàn. Late-Míng polymath and private scholar. Wànlì 22 (1594) jǔrén; declined to take further examinations and lived as a Lóngxī private literatus. Commissioned by the Lóngxī prefectural-level officials in Wànlì 45 (1617) to compile the Dōngxī yáng kǎo 東西洋考 (KR2k0145) — the most important late-Míng monograph on the South China Sea and the Yuègǎng (Hǎichéng) maritime trade, with its Zhōushī kǎo the foundational pre-modern Chinese sailing-route manual. Other works: edited the Hàn Wèi liùcháo bǎisānjiā jí 漢魏六朝百三家集 — a 118-juan anthology of pre-Táng literary collections (one of the largest pre-modern Chinese literary anthologies, edition: KR4h0007?); the Qīshíèr jiā jí 七十二家集; the QuánHàn wén 全漢文 (preliminary version of the great early-Qīng project); the Lóngxī xiànzhì; and his collected works Qúnyù lóu jí 群玉樓集.
