Northern-Sòng Yìxué scholar, zì Sīshū 思叔. A principal disciple of 程頤 Chéng Yí, whom he served closely in Chéng’s last years. According to 楊時 Yáng Shí’s postface to the Yīchuān Yìzhuàn (KR1a0016), Chéng Yí on his deathbed entrusted the unfinished Yìzhuàn manuscript to Zhāng Yì; Zhāng died shortly after, and the manuscript scattered. The work was eventually recovered in the capital by 謝良佐 Xiè Liángzuǒ and edited into final form by Yáng Shí.
