Xú Yuántài 徐元太 (fl. 1565–1600), zì Rǔxián 汝賢, native of Xuānchéng 宣城 (mod. Ānhuī). Míng jìnshì of Jiājìng 44 (1565). He served as senior provincial governor with three commands in the southwest (against Miáo and Yi rebellions) and rose to Xíngbù shàngshū (Minister of Justice). His chief surviving work is the Yùlín 喻林 (KR3k0045) in 120 juan — the largest Míng-period compendium of classical metaphors, compiled over 20+ years in his military leisure-time and self-published.
