Xú Bǐngyì 徐秉義 ( Guǒtíng 果亭, 1633–1711), early-Qīng Kūnshān 崑山 (Sūzhōu) high-ranking official and kǎojù scholar. Tànhuā (third place in the 1673 jìnshì examination); served as zuǒ shìláng of the Ministry of Personnel and as one of the principal compilers of the Míngshǐ 明史 in the late seventeenth century. Younger brother of the much more famous Xú Qiánxué 徐乾學 and the great kǎojù scholar Xú Yuánwén 徐元文 — the three brothers of Kūnshān (“崑山三徐”) were one of the dominant early-Qīng kǎojù families of JiāngNán. In 1691 (Kāngxī 30) Xú Bǐngyì supplied the prefatory framing of 李用粹 Lǐ Yòngcuì’s Zhèngzhì huìbǔ 證治彙補 (KR3er015), positioning the work as the medical counterpart to the kǎojù scholarly programme. Lifedates 1633–1711 follow the consensus of Qīng-period biographical reference works.
