Huìróng 慧融

Niútóu (Ox-Head) Huìróng 牛頭慧融 (594–657), founder of the Niútóu 牛頭 (“Ox-Head”) Chán school, traditionally counted as a dharma-heir of the Fourth Patriarch Dàoxìn. Also commonly known as Fǎróng 法融. In Guīfēng Zōngmì’s Chéngxí tú KR6q0119 the Niútóu lineage is treated as an independent co-equal early-Chán branch.
