Fāng Yànzhāo 方燕昭 (1854–1908, Bóróng 伯融), late-Qīng official of Dìngyuǎn 定遠, Ānhuī. CBDB id 54628. Holding the post of guāncháshǐ 觀察使 (“Observation Commissioner”, i.e. dàotái 道台) in the Hánjiāng 邗江 (Yángzhōu) region, he came into close friendship with the physician 沈青芝 Shěn Qīngzhī over a span of ten years in the early 1880s.

He wrote the friend-preface (xiǎoxù 小序) to Shěn’s KR3em028 Hóukē jíyè 喉科集腋, dated Guāngxù 7 xīnsì 辛巳, first month of autumn (1881), at the Wēncuì xuān 溫翠軒 of his Yángzhōu residence. The self-preface to the published work records that Fāng “offered Shěn silver to buy the work for printing”, an offer Shěn declined, electing instead to publish the manual freely. Fāng’s preface explicitly attests to having compiled with Shěn a comparative survey of “thirty-six laryngology authorities” with their diagnostic typologies, prescriptions, emetic methods, and needling protocols — a piece of late-Qīng hóukē bibliographic synthesis preserved only through this preface.
