Zhū Shí’ēn 朱時恩 (b. Jiājìng 嘉靖 42 = 1563, d. unknown), late-Míng layman-Buddhist scholar, hào Xīnkōng jūshì 心空居士. A native of Xiùshuǐ 秀水 (the “Cloud-borderland” 雲間 / modern SōngjiāngJiāxìng region) and an inner-chamber disciple (入室弟子) of Yúnqī Zhūhóng 雲棲祩宏 (1535–1615) — the great late-Míng Pure-Land master.
The Fózǔ gāngmù preface places him at “44 years of age in Wànlì 萬曆 35 = 1607, when he formed the unsurpassable resolve and made diligent inquiry into the wondrous way.” He began work on his magnum opus the 《佛祖綱目》 Fózǔ gāngmù in Wànlì 38 (1610), and the work was completed in Chóngzhēn 崇禎 6 (癸酉 = 1633, autographic colophon) and prefaced by Dǒng Qíchāng 董其昌 in Chóngzhēn 7 (甲戌 = 1634). He also compiled the 《居士分燈錄》 Jūshì fēndēng lù (KR6q0039, X1607, 2 juan), a 72-person collection of lay-Buddhist practitioners modelled on the Chán fēndēng literature.
