Northern-Sòng Daoist priest and twenty-third patriarch (zōngshī 宗師) of the Shàngqīng 上清 / Máoshān 茅山 lineage, hào Guānmiào xiānshēng 觀妙先生, also styled Sāndòng fǎshī 三洞法師. His dates 974–1029 are given in DZ 304 Máoshān zhì 茅山志 by Liú Dàbīn 劉大彬 (completed 1328) and accepted by Robinet in her entry on DZ 6 in Schipper & Verellen eds., The Taoist Canon (2004), 2:1044–1045 (a different S-V entry at 2:—— gives 976–1029; the 974 date is standard). As Máoshān patriarch he presided over the principal Shàngqīng sanctuary at the opening of the eleventh century. He is known chiefly for his editorial and prefatorial work on the central Shàngqīng scripture: the preface of 1024 to Shàngqīng dàdòng zhēnjīng 上清大洞真經 (DZ 6), substantially composed from excerpts of the earlier Shàngqīng scriptures DZ 1313 and DZ 1314, is the single most influential Sòng-era editorial contribution to the Shàngqīng textual tradition. The “Zhū Zìyīng version” (Sāndòng fǎshī Guānmiào xiānshēng běn 三洞法師觀妙先生本) is the named recension that Chén Jǐngyuán 陳景元 collates as the standard text in DZ 104 Shàngqīng dàdòng zhēnjīng yùjué yīnyì 上清大洞真經玉訣音義. No CBDB record exists for Zhū Zìyīng. He is also associated with a Máoshān zàngjīng 茅山藏經 compilation of Shàngqīng records dated 1024 (see DZ 304 and Schipper & Verellen 2:—, entry on the related Máoshān records).
