Lǐ Yuánbì, zì Chíguó 持國, was a Northern Sòng county magistrate active in the Zhènghé era. The principal evidence for his life is his own preface to the Zuòyì zìzhēn 作邑自箴 (KR2l0019), dated the seventh month of Zhènghé 7 (1117), where he describes himself as awaiting his next posting (chíguó dài cì 持國待次) at Guǎnglíng 廣陵 (Yángzhōu). He held a chuánchuáng recommendation entitling him to a county magistracy and is cited in the preface as having been recommended to a county post under the new institutional standards of the Zhènghé reform era. No further securely identifying biographical material is recorded; later catalogues mention him only in connection with the Zuòyì zìzhēn. CBDB lists multiple Tang Lǐ Yuánbì homonyms but no Sòng entry; the Sòng author of the present work is therefore unattested in CBDB and the present note relies entirely on internal evidence from the work’s preface. He is sometimes also styled Chízhì 持之 in later catalogues, possibly a variant.
