Lǐ Qí 李琪

Style name Kāibó 開伯. Native of Wújùn 吳郡 (modern Sūzhōu). Active in the late Southern Sòng (Jiādìng era, c. 1208–1224). Held the post of Guózǐ sīyè 國子司業 (Vice Director of the Imperial Academy). The SKQS tíyào (under KR1e0049) gives no further career details. CBDB id 3473 records his floruit as 1196–1211.

His one surviving work is the Chūnqiū wáng bà liè guó shì jì biān 春秋王霸列國世紀編 (KR1e0049), completed in Jiādìng xīnwèi (1211). The work is a state-by-state historical reorganisation of the Chūnqiū with implicit contemporary political application — particularly to the SòngJīn relationship and the failure of the běiyuán restoration programme. The SKQS editors are explicitly cool toward the work’s interpretive merits, registering it as a documentary witness to “the Southern Sòng’s progressive weakness, the literati class still leaning on classical texts to manufacture rhetoric for self-justification — a sign of the dynasty’s secular decline.”
