Mid-Táng statesman, courtesy name Shēnzhī 深之, native of Lǒngxī 隴西. He took the jìnshì and rose through Hànlín xuéshì 翰林學士 (where he served Xiànzōng 憲宗 from c. 807 onwards, around five years), Hùbù shìláng 戶部侍郎 (briefly), and finally to Zhōngshū Ménxià píngzhāngshì (chancellor) in 811–814. He is one of the principal admonishers of the Yuánhé (806–820) reform agenda under Xiànzōng. He fell out with Lǐ Féngjí 李逢吉 and was eventually killed in office in 830 (CBDB id 32760, 764–830). His career is recorded in Jiù Tángshū (juàn 164) and Xīn Tángshū (juàn 152). His remonstrances were posthumously gathered by the Táng historian Jiǎng Xié 蔣偕 into the Lǐ xiàngguó lùnshì jí 李相國論事集 (KR2g0005); the seven-piān compilation, deposited in the Dōngguān with a preface dated Dàzhōng 5 (851), is the principal source for Sīmǎ Guāng’s treatment of his career in the Tōngjiàn.
