Lǐ Zìchéng 李自成

Late-Míng rebel leader (1606–1645), self-styled Chuǎngwáng 闖王 (“Dashing King”). Led the peasant rebellion that overthrew the Míng dynasty: his forces sacked Beijing on the 19th day of the 3rd month of Chóngzhēn 17 (1644), driving the Chóngzhēn emperor to suicide. Briefly proclaimed the Shùn 順 dynasty before being defeated by the combined Qīng / Wú Sānguì forces at the battle of Shānhǎiguān. Killed in 1645 during the southward flight.

Mentioned in 項謙 Xiàng Qiān’s 1652 preface to KR6j0760 as the agent of the 1644 sack of Beijing that prompted Xiàng’s southward flight.
