Sòng compiler from Méishān 眉山 (modern Sìchuān), self-attributed in his preface as a jìnshì. The Sìkù editors note that his career is otherwise unverifiable. His preface to the Míngchén bēizhuàn wǎnyǎn zhī jí 名臣碑傳琬琰之集 (KR2g0025) is dated Shàoxī jiǎyín = 1194, fixing his floruit. He is principally known for that compilation: 107 juàn in three sections (27 + 55 + 25) — shéndào bēi, zhìmíng / xíngzhuàng, and biézhuàn — gathering biographical stelae and separate biographies for Northern-Sòng great officials from Jiànlóng (960) down to early Southern Sòng. His work is the principal Sòng-period anthology of biographical stele literature and a foundational source for Sòng prosopography.
