Yuán-dynasty paleographer, zì Wǔzǐ 武子, hào Xīnquán 辛泉, of Yǎnzhōu (modern Shandong). Began his career in Zhōngtǒng 4 (1263) as instructor of Jǐzhōu, and rose through senior court philological positions: Tàishǐyuàn jiàoshū, Jiānchá yùshǐ, Guózǐjiàn sīyè. His career is in his Yuánshǐ biography (juàn 164). Three philological works (his “Sānshū”): Liùshū tǒng KR1j0037 (presented 1308 by his son Yáng Shǒuyì), the most ambitious Yuán-period attempt to bring all graphs under the liùshū taxonomy; Liùshū sùyuán 六書溯源; Shūxué zhèngyùn 書學正韻. The Sìkù tíyào on the Liùshū tǒng is severely critical of Yáng’s idiosyncratic hyper-categorization, but acknowledges his genuine paleographic learning. CBDB lifedates 1234–1299; the catalog meta gives only the dynasty without precise dates.
