Late-Míng Buddhist monk-commentator, courtesy name (字) Tǐrú 體如. Lifedates and place of origin unknown; the floruit given here (1620–1650) reflects his attested late-Wànlì / Chóngzhēn / early-Qīng transition compositional career. The DILA Buddhist Studies Person Authority (A000267) gives the alternate forms 體如, 正相如, and 正相體如.
Two attested works, both with self-prefaces dated Chóngzhēn 8 (1635):
- Bōrě xīnjīng fāyǐn 般若心經發隱 (X551 = KR6c0170) — Heart Sūtra commentary
- Léngyán jīng dàshìzhì yuántōng zhāng kē-jiě 楞嚴經勢至圓通章科解 (also: Dàshìzhì yuántōng zhāng kē-jiě 大勢至圓通章科解, X310) — commentary on the Mahāsthāmaprāpta Universal-Penetration chapter of the Śūraṅgama-sūtra
The pairing of a Heart Sūtra commentary with a Mahāsthāmaprāpta chapter commentary suggests a Pure-Land-leaning Chan or Tiāntái doctrinal orientation (the Dàshìzhì chapter is one of the foundational Pure Land scriptures, alongside the Amitābhasūtra trio); both works were apparently composed in the same year and likely intended as paired study materials.
He represents the late-Míng / early-Qīng monastic-scholar genre that worked with brief, non-elaborate commentaries on key sūtras during the period of the MíngQīng transition, when the major monastic centres were facing both political crisis and intense doctrinal-polemical disputes between the Línjì and Cáodòng schools.
