Late-Qīng / early-Republican-period physician of Wúxī 無錫 (梁溪), Jiāngsū; ancestry traced to Húzhōu 湖州 (浙江), where the Sòng jìnshì ancestor Shěn Yǒukāi 沈有開 had served as 太常博士. Zì Lǐān 禮庵, hào Fèngjiāng 奉江, biéshǔ (later) Táiwēng 鮐翁 and Zhèshēng 蔗生 (the latter adopted after his recovery from cholera in 1902 via sugar-cane juice). Studied at the gate of the Mènghé 孟河 court physician Mǎ Péizhī 馬培之 (馬文植), after abandoning his examination career around 1894 with the slogan dà zhàng fū bù wéi liáng xiàng dìng wéi liáng yī 大丈夫不為良相定為良醫. From the late Guāngxū through the Republican period he practised in the Chóng’ān Sì 崇安寺 Zhōng yǐn yuàn 中隱院 in Wúxī. Co-founded the local Zhōng yī yǒu yì huì 中醫友誼會 and the journal Yī zhōng 醫鍾. The medical-case compilation KR3eb009 Yī yàn suí bǐ was edited by his disciple Zhōu Féngrú 周逢儒 in 1924. His other writings — Yī tōng 醫通 (1 juan), Chújīngtáng wén gǎo 鋤經堂文稿, Dìhuā jí 棣華集 — are preserved in family editions but not in this catalog. No CBDB record.
The catalog meta for KR3eb009 erroneously names “張文藻” as the author; the text itself is unambiguous in identifying Shěn as the clinician.
