Mid-Northern-Sòng Hànlín xuéshì, zì Wéntōng 文通, of Qiántáng 錢塘 (Hángzhōu). Entered office at age 16 by yīn (hereditary privilege) as Jiāoshè zhāiláng; took the jìnshì in Huángyòu 1 / 1049 in first place at age 25 (adjusted to second on the technicality of his already holding office); held Zhīzhìgào, zhī Hángzhōu, zhī Kāifēngfǔ; final office Hànlín xuéshì. Younger brother of the poet Shěn Liáo 沈遼; first cousin of the polymath Shěn Kuò 沈括. Author of the lost Běnzhì lùn 本治論 in 10 piān (a major political-philosophical treatise praised by Rénzōng but not preserved in his collection). Died young at Zhìpíng 4 / 1067 age 43. Surviving collection: Xīxī jí KR4d0049 (10 juǎn; combined with his brother’s and cousin’s works as the Sān xiānshēng wén jí KR4d0036 in early-Southern-Sòng Kuòcāng publication). CBDB id 1449.
