Faxin 法進 / Hōshin (709–778) — Tang Chinese Vinaya monk who travelled to Japan with Jianzhen 鑑真 (688–763) in Tenpyōshōhō 6 = 754 and there became the first ordination master (shoshi kaiwajō 最初戒和上) at the newly-established Tōdaiji Kaidan-in 東大寺戒檀院 ordination platform. Born in Shēnzhōu 申州 (modern Xìnyáng 信陽, Henan Province) of Tang, in Jǐnglóng 景龍 3 (= 709). Died in Japan in 778.

He was personally responsible for the establishment of the Japanese kaidan (ordination-platform) tradition. His sole surviving canonical work, Dōngdàsì shòujiè fāngguǐ 東大寺受戒方軌 (KR6t0046, T74n2349), is the earliest surviving Japanese Buddhist ordination manual — a ten-chapter liturgical work codifying the procedures for monastic and nun ordination at Tōdaiji.
