Hóng Xīngzǔ 洪興祖 (1090–1155), Qìngshàn 慶善, hào Liàntáng 練塘, of Dānyáng 丹陽 in Zhènjiāngfǔ 鎮江府 (modern Dānyáng, Jiāngsū). Southern-Sòng -, Chǔcí-, and Hánshī-scholar.

Passed the jìnshì 進士 examination of 1118 (Zhènghé 8 / Chóngníng special exam, per the CBDB fl. notation 1118). Held a series of provincial appointments under Gāozōng, including secretarial posts at Sūzhōu and Húzhōu. Politically aligned with the anti-Qín-Huì 秦檜 faction; impeached for praising Zhāng Jiǔchéng 張九成 and dismissed to a punitive transfer to Zhāozhōu 昭州 (modern Pínglè 平樂, Guǎngxī), where he died.

His Chǔ cí bǔ zhù 楚辭補注 (KR4a0003) is the standard supplement to Wáng Yì’s zhāng jù, fusing Wáng’s commentary with new philological work, citation of intervening scholarship (especially Hàn–Táng glossaries and the lost Chǔ cí commentary of Xíng Bǐng 邢昺), and a substantial corrective program at the lexical and prosodic level. Together with Wáng Yì’s KR4a0002 and Zhū Xī’s KR4a0004 it forms the third pillar of the orthodox Chǔ cí commentary tradition.

CBDB id 14172. Birth–death dates 1090–1155 are the standard Sòng shǐ derivation followed in Sìkù tíyào and modern reference works.
